House Hunters, Part Deux

With respect to House Hunters, it occurred to me that very few episodes of the show are filmed in New England. (Maybe they have been, and I just haven't seen them.) I wondered why, and the only reason I can think of is that traditional New England residential architecture simply doesn't lend itself to what House Hunters hostess Suzanne Whang always refers to as "that desirable open floor plan." Show me a fine old saltbox or Garrison with the kitchen in the living room and I'll show you an abomination.

Or maybe New Englanders, being naturally reserved, are disinclined to open their homes to tv crews and the kind of potential buyers who behave the way the ones do on House Hunters. What IS it with these people? The real estate agent shows them a bathroom, and the first thing they do is climb into the tub and stretch out full-length. With their shoes on, presumably in order to leave some sort of "Kilroy was here" scuff marks and scratches on the porcelain. Is that tacky, or what?
