Thoughts about Bill Tapply

Most of you know that my old friend Bill Tapply died last summer, following a battle with leukemia that Bill fought with the good humor and good spirits characteristic of him.

I always looked forward to Bill's next book. His was the kind of writing that you sank into after a long hard day--a reward for your labors. You knew you'd be getting a good story with compelling characters told in a graceful, straightforward fashion.

One of the standout features of Bill's work was the seamless way he incorporated his love of nature into the fabric of the narrative. No matter how urban and gritty the plot was, Bill almost always managed to insert into it scenes from a rural landscape. The one enhanced the other.
